Can we become happy without sorrow and our bad sides? Nowadays we mainly seem to be concerned with exhibiting our “happiness” and there is no room for imperfections. I think we should embrace our dark side. You cannot know happiness without knowing sorrow. Without sadness or badness, you have nothing to measure your happiness to. Using the theory of psycho-analyst Carl Gustav Jung, we created the installation GRAY for the Night of the Arts (2019). In the installation, the public was invited to come into contact with his or her own shadow side. Jung believed, "One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." - C. G. Jung (1945)
